7 Questions to Ask Before Renting a Cabin

According to a February 2014 Study by TripAdvisor more than half of American plan to stay in a vacation rental rather than a hotel. Renting cabins, we get asked some of the craziest questions by our guests like if they can bring their geese with them on vacation.

All kidding aside… Before you book your visit, here are a few key questions you should ask.

1. Ask about the Cancellation Policy

We all have things that come up. Ask about the terms if for some reason you should need to cancel your visit.

  • Do you lose your deposit?
  • Can you reschedule?
  • What if the weather is bad?
Pet-Friendly Cabins

Pet-Friendly Cabins doesn’t mean EVERY pet is welcome.

2. What is meant by pet-friendly?

Not all cabin rentals are pet-friendly and not all places have the same policies. Always bring proof of your up-to-date immunizations and boosters. Be sure to ask these questions before you show up with your furry companions.

  • Is there a size limit?
  • Is there a limit to how many pets?
  • Do they restrict specific breeds?

3. How many cars are allowed?

Many cabins are large enough for an entire family or large group. If you will have more than one or two vehicles ask if there is a restriction on parking or a limitation on spaces available to park.

4. What if something is damaged inside the cabin rental?

Accidents happen but it is good to know what will happen should there be an accident during your visit. Here are a few things to ask before the occasion arises.

  • Who do we call if there is a problem in the cabin?
  • If something is broken or damaged how is this covered?
  • What if you get locked out of your cabin? After Hours?

5. What is available nearby?

Most cabins come with full kitchens, so it should be asked… how close is the nearest grocery store? Where are the good spots to grab a bite to eat when you don’t feel like cooking? What are their hours?

6. How does cleaning work?

Is it included or does it cost extra? Some properties expect you to do some things like washing towels and loading the dishwasher and will charge extra if they have to do it. Ask first to avoid additional fees.

7. What events or activities are close by?

Many cabin rental properties have relationships with local activities and events and may be able to provide discount coupons, vouchers, or freebies to the event or activity.
